In spite of it’s angelic title, the video for Angels showcases A$AP Rocky and other members of the A$AP Mob collective on their worst behaviour. The violence is mildly suggestive as the group of uptown boys ride their BMX bikes through the streets of New York wearing Jason Voorhees inspired masks. They take over a bodega before getting in an altercation with another biker that crosses their path and eventually get turnt up in…a forest? It’s more likely Central Park. Directed by Rocky and Luke Monaghan, the video is very cinematic in it’s nature with it’s stunted pacing and an over-saturated color palette. The aesthetic is rooted the same vein as the iconic imagery that is Peso.
The boys are of course laced in the rarest of garments some of which includes Y-3 and Raf Simons. You can catch appearances by Lou Banga, A$AP Ant, A$AP Illz and a dutty Ian Connor in the cut. The video was released last night on Halloween and it definitely sends out a powerful message – the night and the Empire State belong to A$AP.
