It’s hard to believe our “Are We There Yet” movie star was such a gangster back in the day but HE WAS and IS the EPITOME of early 90s West Coast rap. From the plaid button down shirt, head scarf tied in West Coast fashion and the big bodied lime green whip…this video SCREAMED West Coast! “It Was a Good Day” (which I’ve always referred to as “Today was a Good Day”), is a story of the average West Coast banger and he was, as the song states, just having a “good day”. Details of the day included waking up, eating breakfast, driving around, basketball with the homies, didnt get pulled over (woo-hoo), watched some TV, shot dice, dominoes, some “sexual escapades”, drinking and just kicking it. Nothing really lyrically outstanding but everything was just on point and that beat….phewwww…STILL bumpin’ that one to this day!
Super shoutouts to that person back in like ’94 that paid $3.99 every 5 minutes to keep this joint on repeat on The Box (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Box_(U.S.). My childhood appreciated that!
Today I didn’t even have to use my AK/I gotta say it was a good day.
