Weekly Fresh Cuts…

With all the talk about new 2 Chainz and new Rick Ross over the past couple of weeks, I had to bring to you the good hip-hop…yea I said “good”, what? Anyway here’s a few of my top choices in the last little while. Add these to your library…you’re welcome!

[VIDEO MIX] DJ LAW – Mixtape Radio #BMZRADIO August 12 2012

The homie and Beatminerz Radio, DJ Law, keeps us current with this dope video mix of the latest hip-hop from some US and Canadian emcees. This video is just under 40 minutes, but includes some bangers from artists like Elzhi, Danny Brown, Slaughterhouse, Rich Kidd, Kardinal Offishall, Joey Bada$$ and more.

[VIDEO] Ab-Soul – “Black Lip Bastard” (Black Hippy Remix) ft. Kendrick Lamar, ScHoolboy Q and Jay Rock

I have to be completely honest here, I’m kinda new to Ab-Soul (yea I know #latepass). When my homie Sol played Ab’s “Terrorist Threats” ft. Danny Brown and Jhene Aiko in my van, yes at ignorant levels, I instantly wanted to hear more from this artist. Now mind you, the video for “Terrorist Threats” was posted on the site months ago, I just didn’t pay close attention (sorry). Well my ears are open for everything coming from the TDE camp now. Check out Ab’s latest video below for “Black Lip Bastard”, featuring, as BP’s AHarmony describes it, “four incredibly talented emcees molesting a dope beat from all angles.”

[AUDIO] Skyzoo – “Jansport Strings” (Prod. by 9th Wonder)

Skyzoo sets off his upcoming album “A Dream Deferred” with an insanely dope track produced by 9th Wonder. Skyzoo reminisces in this 3 minute auto-bio about his Brooklyn childhood and the Chi-Ali video that inspired him to start rhyming. Skyzoo explains the idea behind the song title, “Jansport Strings is not based on it being literal, but more so in the figurative sense. As a kid in NY, the strings on your Jansport bag were a sign of power and presence. Kids would steal the strings off of each other’s bags and burn the tips to prevent getting robbed of them once they got them.” I actually remember my cousins telling me about the seriousness of carrying a Jansport backpack and how kids were getting robbed for them in NY. As for the Chi-Ali video ‘Age Ain’t Nothin But A Number’, that was a personal fave for me as well. Look out for Skyzoo’s album to be released October 2nd via Duck Down Music.

[AUDIO] Kev Brown – “Makeba”

Kev Brown has to be one of the greatest underground producers, hands down, with an impressive catalog of work…google him. This week he dropped two track/two instrumental EP entitled, “South Africa Dedication”. The first release is this incredibly dope track “Makeba” which has been on repeat! The EP is currently available on Redefinition Records.

[AUDIO] Talib Kweli – “To The Music” ft. Maino (Prod. by 9th Wonder)

Nothing makes me happier than hearing a smoothed out Jones Girls “Nights Over Egypt” sample, courtesy of 9th Wonder. He stays producing some classy and soulful beats, this time he delivers a great one for the lyricist extraordinaire Talib Kweli. My only gripe with this track is Maino…yea I’m not fond of Maino. Overall though this track is dope-as-hell and I can’t wait to hear what else Kweli has in store for Prisoner of Conscious, to be released in October. For now take in this dopeness off his “Attack The Block” mixtape with Z-Trip.

[VIDEO] evitaN – Keep Keepin On

Two legends, Dres (Blacksheep) and Jarobi (ATCQ), remind us to dig deep inside and “Keep Keepin’ On”. The beat feels jazzy and reminds us of that 90′s Native Tongues sound. Check out this live performance for Knocksteady TV, where they include elements of hip-hop and most importantly the innocence of childhood in hip-hop! Look out for the release of evitaN’s debut project, Speed of Life.

[VIDEO] J. Dilla – “Rebirth Is Necessary” feat. Tone Plummer x Mr. Wrong x DJ Butter

“Rebirth Is Necessary” is off of J. Dilla‘s posthumous (yep, still hate this word) album, Rebirth of Detroit. This track featuring Tone and Mr. Wrong and in my opinion is actually one of the better tracks on the album. The visuals show us the current hardships that Detroit faces, but reminds us that the city is currently rebuilding. The overall visual message is to provide a future for the children, and the music and sound of Detroit plays a huge part in this. Tone boasts about the D having some of the best emcees and even goes as far as to say, “Even some of the little kids can out-rhyme you!”

[AUDIO] Brother Ali – “Mourning In America” (Prod. by Jake One)

Brother Ali delivers lyrically and Jake One provides a cold beat! This is the 2nd track off BA’s upcoming album Mourning In America And Dreaming In Color, to be released on September 18th via Rhymesayers Entertainment, produced entirely by Jake One.

[AUDIO] Chuuwee – “Timeless” (Production courtesy of the late J. Dilla)

I love it when the newcomers want to pay tribute to the legends. Chuuwee takes on instrumentals from Dilla’s “The Shining” and spits his verses over them. His latest project entitled “Chez!!?…Chill!!!” will not only showcase this emcees skills, but will introduce the continued legacy of J. Dilla to a younger audience.

[VIDEO] Chance Fischer – “Tantalize” (Erin’s Pick)

Last week Chance Fischer dropped his first official video (ever!) for the track “Tantalize” off his Epic Week EP, which of course you can listen to here.Directed by Mark A. Shark of New Vintage Films, the ridiculous smooth track is paired up with sensual imagery giving it a very intimate visual landscape.
