Homeboy Sandman-The Carpenter

One of the first questions I asked myself when I saw the name Homeboy Sandman was “what’s up with that name”? Then, I listened to a few of his tracks and realized it made sense because Homeboy could easily bury a lot of current rappers in the sandbox. He’s that sick!

Straight out of Queens, New York, Angel Del Villar II is by no means an emcee to be taken lightly.  He’s been spitting genius for a while now and has gotten recognition for his craft from big names such as Source Magazine, XXL and MTV (UK feature) just to name a few. Sandman has 2 EPs, 33 track mixtapes, and 3 albums out (First of a Living Breed , which drops on September 30, 2012 will be album number 4), and is about to embark on a 38 city North American tour this fall with Rhymesayers artist Brother Ali, and DJ Sosa. Homeboy Sandman is destined to keep Hip Hop alive and healthy with his steady flow, mind boggling word play and insightful lyrics. One of the tracks that initially caught my ear from the Stones Throw label artist was “Carpenter”, from his The Good Sun album. He doesn’t even take a break for air on this track. His fast flow is paired with what could easily be the perfect beat for breakdancing — an element of Hip Hop that was given much consideration by emcees back in the day but not so much today. Whether it was conciously done or not, shout out to Sandman for that. If you feel like listening to a sick flow and maybe busting out your cardboard box for some break dancing, then check out this track and more some from this legit hip hop emcee.
