August 12th 2012 Le Poisson Rouge in New York City will host the 3rd Annual American Beatboxing Championships Grand Finale battle. America’s top 16 beatboxers will battle it out live in an “8-mile style” display of microphone wizardry, judged by the Godfather of Beatbox, Rahzel of The Roots.

Back to defend his title as the 2nd American Beatbox Champion, J-Flo from Long Island New York will go mic to mic with America’s best: FriScO (CA), Spencer Polanco (NY), Rizumik (NY), Heaven (GA), We11s (MO), Phatlips (UT), Sung Lee (NJ), Stubble (NM), Orthobox (DE), Amit (NY), DrC (CA), NYCBeatbox (NY), SyzyGy (CA), EVMB (CA), and HARM (CA).

This year’s championship will be presented over 2 days with an opening “International Open Mic” series hosted at Littlefield performance arts gallery in Brooklyn on Sat, Aug 11 (See Opening Night info HERE). Saturday’s event will feature beatboxers from across North America with special showcases by reigning American champion J-Flo, three man ill, and Toronto’s own Word of Mouth (Killa Beatz and Subconscious).

The weekend-long Championship has garnered a reputation as a gem among New York City’s summer music festivals. This year’s will also include live music co-headlined by America’s Got Talent top finalist Butterscotch, who wowed audiences with her signature mix of soul, beatbox, piano, and guitar, and became the first female to win a World Beatbox Championship title. Performances by Maya Azucena, Pete List and Steven Foxx, live rap cyphers, and an arts exhibition curated by Chris Soria are also on tap to make the weekend one of the summer’s dopest! Viper Records’ Hasan Salaam w/ Colin Dean’s Roots and Grooves and DJ Chela are set to host.
