For those outside of Nashville, Philly, Miami or Orlando…you may not have heard of The Boom Bap. For the rest of us, this is a monthly party we all look forward to. Going 4 yrs strong, The Boom Bap showcases 3 resident DJs (Nashville residents Bowls, Case and Rate) and a “guest” DJ, which has become more legendary with each month.
Saturday night proved not to disappoint with the “guest” DJ being none other than the legendary DJ Scratch! Finishing up a 3 city party tour, which included Miami (celebrating Scratch’s Birthday) and Orlando, I was a little hesitant that Scratch and our local legendary DJs Rate and Case, would be less-than-their-best and quite frankly pooped from the non-stop partying. Boy was I wrong! Assuming they left the best for last?
Front row and center, I rocked out to the DJs putting it down all night! I arrived at about 10pm and left at 2am and I did not stop dancing the entire time. I recall putting my “L” up for the homie Big L and rapping every word to Group Home’s “The Realness” when Scratch was on. Scratch showed out too. He went around his back and even at one point DJ’d with his tongue – BEAST MODE. I’m still trying to figure out how he made the club jump with Tom Jones but he did it. His Twitter name is “Turntable Whisperer”, truer words have never been spoken.
Mr. Turntable Whisperer:

Thanks to the fine folks over at The Boom Bap, not only have I been able to rock out to Tony Touch and Diamond D, but most recently DJ Scratch. Word on the street is that July 27th is bringing DJ Premier (you may have heard of him), the instrumental half of Gang Starr and more than likely your favorite producers’ favorite producer.
If you have never attended a Boom Bap, I urge you to check it out. If your city does not have one, don’t worry, I’m sure one will pop up soon! We here in Nashville are very proud of our Boom Bap creators and super grateful to be able to have this one true hip hop party monthly, which is definitely something to look forward to.
Oh yeah, super shout out for the DOPE stencil poster I got signed by Scratch!! The folks at The Boom Bap always try to have a little something to throw out in the crowd for party goers to take home. It’s kind of like going to the really cool kids’ birthday party, they always have the best party favors!
