While YMCMB and MMG have torn up the charts, the hip-hop community has been patiently waiting for releases off of the G.O.O.D. Music label. With signed artists including Big Sean, Pusha-T, Cyhi the Prince, Kid Cudi and more recently, producer Q-Tip, the expansion of the label can only indicate good things to come.
The first single of the upcoming G.O.O.D Music compilation album, which has now been revealed as Cruel Summer, is “Mercy” – an incredible banger that featured 2 Chainz. Of course, this futher ignitated the already existant rumors that 2 Chainz (formerly known as Tity Boi) was the newest signee to the label.
After months of speculation, last Friday the HNIC of G.O.O.D Music, Kanye West, tweeted the following:
But ultimately, there wasn’t an actual statement saying 2 Chainz signed to the label and was later denied by 2 Chainz himself in an interview with Bootleg Kev. Days after, Kanye did officially announce the signing of songstress (or half-nude socialite, depending on your opinion) Teyana Taylor. Teyana, who was dropped from Interscope this year, had vocals on Ye’s “Christmas in Harlem” and “Dark Fantasy” off MBDTF in the following year.
With all that being done in a week, ‘Ye has now announced he’s going to debut a 30-minute short film titled “Cruel Summer” at the 2012 Cannes Film Festival May 23rd. Kanye, alongside his creative team DONDA, describe is as “a fusion of short film and art installation” and an “immersive seven-screen experience.” Featured in the film includes comedian Aziz Ansari and Kid Cudi, as well as Lebanese actress Razane Jammal and Palestinian actor Ali Suliman. It’s a film based off a screen play written by Elon Rutberg, the director of the “Niggas in Paris”. The only other known information is that a part of it was filmed in the nation of Qatar.
It’s gonna be a G.O.O.D. Summer, a Cruel Summer!
