We had two of Toronto’s dopest and most respected MCs in the spot with us: Dan-e-o and Promise! They already have a strong following as individual artists, but are even stronger as a unit, under the name Perfeck Strangers.
Dan-e-o first came into prominence in 1996 with his debut single and now classic joint, “DEAR HIP HOP”, and his later albums have cemented his reputation as one of the Canada’s most elite emcees. Known for his potent lyrical content, Promise focuses primarily on life, love and the consciousness of mankind, and is no stranger to the mic. His debut solo album, More than Music, boasted guest appearances by Elzhi (formerly of Slum Village), Royce da 5’9, and more. Managed by the legendary Duck Down Records, he’s toured with some of the label’s biggest artists, while making a name for himself around the globe, on his own terms.
Their debut album, Series Premiere can be found everywhere, and we managed to get a hold of them right after their time at the 2012 SXSW. We talked about music, building a foundation, Trayvon Martin, and what it means to be a “conscious” MC.
Keep it locked every Tuesday night at 11PM to CHRY 105.5FM (or LISTEN LIVE online at www.CHRY.FM) for DD Radio – Canada’s ONLY All Female Hip Hop Show…thanks for the support!
