When I saw “Rapper from Compton” in my inbox, I was prepping myself for some NWA, Death Row throwback ish… Presumptuous? Yeah. Well, whatever stereotypes come to mind, it’s definitely NOT what Sir Emmitt McGee III is about. This new-comer emcee (who also has a John-Legend-like singing voice) blends hip hop, funk, soul, and R&B. While instrumentally there’s nothing ground-breaking going on, his willingness to experiment vocally and side-step the norm is pretty engaging. Hear him get pensive and spiritual on his R&B track “FatherGod” or flex his lyrical muscle on tracks like “The Funk Frankenstein”. A good start from an interesting dude.
