THROWBACK THURSDAY: “TONIGHT’S DA NIGHT” – REDMAN

One of the best MC’s ever, tells us how a typical night would play out in the shoes of Reggie Noble. This track totally identifies who Redman is. The intro is kinda funny, Hurricane G interrupts his initial rapping telling him to stop with that “smooth shit”, demanding something “rough”… ‘cause that’s who he is! Red follows with “F*ck the smoov shit, I get down wit the boom bip, like Q-Tip, I kick more styles than Bruce shoe’s kick!” Dope. What I love about Reggie is he’s the same ol’ g today as he was then. Erick Sermon and Red himself are behind the beat, sampling the likes of Isaac Hayes, James Brown and Mary Jane Girls. This can be found on his debut album Whut? Thee Album 1992.
