THROWBACK THURSDAY: “DA JOINT” – EPMD

Erick Sermon and Parrish Smith, also known as legendary EPMD have been in the game over two decades. They’ve seen the ups and downs in the game, having their own. “Da Joint” comes from their return album Back to Business (1997) after their first breakup in ’92. Sermon comes hard on this track, letting everybody know damn well who they are, what they do, and exactly how they’re gonna keep doing it! Dope rhymes are delivered over a perfect beat, produced by Sermon himself, alongside producer Rockwilder. This makes for a perfect production collaboration, capturing soulful vibes, (sampling from Aretha Franklin, Gladys Knight & the Pips and Lyn Collins) while transitioning into the “newer” age rap game in 97. Also needless to say, this is one of the “best first line” songs ever!
